成長於英格蘭，並於牛津大學取得博士學位，現為印第安納大學（Indiana University）歷史學系教授及金賽研究所（Kinsey Institute）學者。著有專書《感性與美國獨立革命》（Sensibility and the American Revolution；暫譯）以及多篇婦女史、性別史及情感史相關文章。諾特曾擔任美國歷史學會（American Historical Association）旗艦級期刊《美國史學評論》（American Historical Review）編輯，現為英國的歷史學期刊《過去與現在》（Past and Present）編輯委員。她曾獲安德魯・美隆基金會（Andrew Mellon foundation）、牛津大學羅瑟米爾美國研究院（Rothermere American Institute）及牛津生命書寫中心（Oxford Centre for Life Writing）等多個機構頒授研究獎助。
