耶魯大學博士，曾任教於耶魯大學與法國高等研究院，美國曼荷蓮學院（Mount Holyoke College）現代歐洲史榮休教授，威爾遜國際學人中心前任院士，目前是《法語大西洋百科全書》（Encyclopedia of the French Atlantic）顧問委員。他出版了數本關於德雷福事件的著作，包括《農業社會與法國政治──布朗熱主義與德雷福事件》（Rural Society and French Politics: Boulangism and the Dreyfus Affair, 1984）、《德雷福──從法國大革命到猶太大屠殺的一場家庭事件》（Dreyfus: A Family Affair, from the French Revolution to the Holocaust, 1992）。
