奧克拉荷馬大學古典學與文學系教授。過去著作有《羅馬的命運：氣候、疾病和帝國的終結》（The Fate of Rome: Climate, Disease, and the End of an Empire）和《從羞恥到罪：古典時代晚期基督教的性道德轉型》（From Shame to Sin: The Christian Transformation of Sexual Morality in Late Antiquity）。目前居住在奧克拉荷馬州木爾。
