美國歐柏林學院（Oberlin College）東亞研究系教授，專攻現代東亞與韓國歷史及政治。曾為《紐約時報》、《政客》（Politico）與《波士頓環球報》（The Boston Globe）撰稿。

著有《戰火兄弟：韓戰未竟的衝突》（暫譯，Brothers at War: The Unending Conflict in Korea）與《韓國的建國敘事：愛國主義的系譜》（暫譯，Narratives of Nation-Building in Korea: The Genealogy of Patriotism），並與芮納・米德（Rana Mitter）合編《斷裂的歷史：亞洲的戰爭、記憶與後冷戰時代》（暫譯，Ruptured Histories: War, Memory, and the Post-Cold War in Asia）。
